Scott Duerr

Scott Duerr started surfing during the summer of 1967 with his older brothers Charlie and Bobby. Their father had a small house down the street from Manasquan Inlet that became a favorite local hang out in his formative years. His photo published in Surfing Magazine in 1976 was just the first of many over the coming years.

As the talented youngster grew so did his prowess in the water.  He soon became known for his surfing ability and a favorite subject of photographers on the East and West Coasts and beyond. Photos of Duerr began appearing in every domestic and many international surf mags throughout the 1980s and 90s and into the 2000s.  He was a favorite subject of photographers Dickie “Mez” Meseroll, John Ker, Ray Halgreen and Bruce Chrisner.

He was also interviewed by the legendary surf journalist, Drew Kampion; he appeared in “Local Talent” in Surfing Magazine, and a few years later in the inaugural ” Hot 100″ in Surfer Magazine.

In 1980 he was invited to surf in the Stubbies Pro in Burleigh Heads, Australia and spent the Australian summer there surfing the Gold Coast impressing the local crew wherever he surfed. Duerr was a regular in the winter lineups in Puerto Rico, a destination he still frequents today. Scott Duerr was inducted into the New Jersey Surfing Hall of Fame in 2019
